Dr. Borbély Zoltán portré

I was introduced to orthodontics early on through my father. I still remember, as a teenager, eagerly waiting to get my first beautiful, colorful, removable braces. Later, I wore fixed braces, even an external appliance (headgear), and as an adult I tried clear aligners to understand them from the patient’s perspective as well.

My professional journey began in my student years by grinding dental models, and as a university student, I evaluated X-rays and observed treatments. This allowed me to become deeply involved in the daily life of our family clinic. What I have always appreciated in orthodontics is that it is a constantly evolving field, allowing us to continuously improve our patients’ treatment processes and outcomes with new knowledge and tools. I also enjoy the direct and friendly relationships we can build with patients due to regular appointments.

I spent one year of my university studies at Cardiff University, and after earning my degree, I conducted research at Semmelweis University and the Hungarian Academy of Sciences Medical Research Institute, where I also earned my Ph.D.

Our doctors generally share the habit of attending 1–2 international conferences each year, along with numerous domestic and online trainings. Reading scientific articles and books is also considered essential. Beyond conferences, I have had the privilege of visiting renowned specialists’ clinics in the United States, Germany, as well as clinics in Norway and Sweden. For some time now, I have been giving lectures myself, primarily on micro-implants and other innovative procedures.

It is always a joy to go home to my family. I met my wife at university; she specializes in treating periodontal diseases. With our four children, the abundance of play, creative activities, and occasional drama, we are never bored.

I enjoy long-term endurance challenges. I have run many marathons (with a personal best of 2 hours 57 minutes) and once circumnavigated Lake Balaton in 23 hours 35 minutes. So far, I have completed the Nagyatád Ironman triathlon 21 times, with a personal best of 10 hours 43 minutes. I am proud that in this event, I usually participate together with my father. Triathlon is one of the few activities I started earlier than him, yet he continues to perform with remarkable persistence even past the age of 70. Besides this, I regularly play the flute, occasionally performing with the Budavári Chamber Orchestra. I also enjoy photography; some of my photos can be viewed on instagram.com/bzkepek.
