As we work

Patient journey

Our patients are also our partners. The beginning of the treatment marks the start of a shared journey that requires strong commitment from both sides. For us, it’s second nature to know what needs to be done at each stage of your orthodontic treatment—but we want you to have a clear understanding of what to expect and when. That’s why we’ve summarized how we at the Dr. Borbély Orthodontic Studio guide and organize this journey together with our partners.

First Contact

Orthodontic treatment is a significant decision—one that is often preceded by thorough research. We like to ask around, consult friends and acquaintances, and gather information to find the best solution for ourselves. It’s also common to reach out to a clinic that seems trustworthy and ask a few important questions. At the Dr. Borbély Orthodontic Studio, we welcome your inquiries—whether by phone, email, or through the contact form on our website. During your first contact, you’ll speak with our patient coordinator.

Our First Meeting

If you’d like to visit us to find out what kind of results orthodontic treatment could bring in your case, we warmly welcome you to an initial consultation at our clinic. During this first in-person meeting, we’ll spend about an hour together and go through the following steps:
  1. You’ll be asked to fill out a registration form with your contact details and some basic health information.
  2. You’ll meet with the doctor conducting the consultation, who will discuss your needs and goals regarding your smile, and then perform an initial assessment.
  3. We’ll then talk about the expected results of the treatment, the types of appliances available to achieve your desired outcome, and the estimated time and financial investment involved.
  4. If you feel comfortable with the proposed options, we can even complete the necessary documentation for treatment planning on the same day.
The fee for this approximately one-hour consultation is 20,000 HUF.

Documentation for Treatment Planning

To create a precise and professional treatment plan tailored to you, we need to carry out a detailed assessment:
  • We will take facial and intraoral photographs
  • X-rays will be taken of your teeth and jaw structure
  • We will take an impression of your teeth to model their current position
Using this documentation, our medical team meets to collaboratively design each patient’s treatment plan based on a well-established protocol and thorough measurements. The result will be your personalized treatment plan, which we will present to you during your next in-person visit. The fee for preparing the treatment plan is 60,000 HUF, and the entire process takes approximately 2 weeks.

Discussion of the Treatment Plan

Once your personalized treatment plan is ready, we invite you back for a follow-up appointment where we will go over everything in detail and provide written documentation, including:
  • The steps that will lead to your desired outcome
  • The type of appliance and accessories we will use
  • How often we’ll see you for check-ups and what will happen during those visits
  • The estimated duration of your treatment
  • The total cost of the treatment and the payment options available to you
This appointment lasts about an hour, and you are welcome to ask any questions—we’re here to provide clear answers and discuss everything thoroughly. This meeting is especially important, as it allows us to align on the collaboration ahead over the coming months or even years. Each of our patients has a primary orthodontist, but often another doctor or dental hygienist will also be actively involved in carrying out the treatment. If everything sounds good to you, we’ll schedule your first treatment appointment—most commonly, this is when the appliance is bonded.

Starting the Treatment

To begin your treatment, we will schedule an appointment of approximately 90 minutes, during which we’ll take the first steps depending on your specific treatment plan. Most commonly, this involves bonding the orthodontic appliance. Before the appointment, we will need your consent, so we’ll ask you to read and sign a patient information sheet and a consent form. At the end of the appointment, we’ll explain everything you need to know—from how to clean your appliance to what minor discomforts you might expect. After that, we’ll schedule your next visit to continue the treatment.

Regular Check-Ups

During orthodontic treatment, your orthodontist will need to perform certain steps regularly to ensure progress toward the final result. These visits are commonly referred to as activations, wire changes, or routine check-ups. In every case, the key point is that your treatment requires the doctor’s intervention to move to the next stage. Typically, we will invite you back every 4 to 8 weeks for these appointments. Most treatments last between one and a half to two and a half years.

Completing the Treatment

When we’ve reached the desired result—one that brings satisfaction to both you and us—we will remove your orthodontic appliance and thoroughly clean and polish your teeth. This is typically a very joyful moment for our patients! Afterward, we will take a new impression to create your custom-made retainer, which is designed to prevent your teeth from shifting back. This retainer will be delivered to you either the same day or within a few days. If you’d like, we’d be happy to take a photo series of your new, confident smile to celebrate the end of your treatment.

Retention and Follow-Up

Even after the active phase of your treatment is complete, we won’t leave you on your own—aftercare is nearly as important as the treatment itself. Following the active stage of orthodontics, we’ll continue to offer regular opportunities for both you and us to ensure everything remains on track. At first, we’ll invite you back every few months, and later on, just once a year for a brief check-up. Of course, if you ever have any questions or need to replace your retainer, don’t hesitate to reach out—we’re always here to help!

For our current patients

We want your time with us to be as comfortable as possible, so we’d like to share the principles that guide the way we work:

Treatment Appointments:

  • You can book an appointment in person at our reception, by phone at +36 20 411 01 11, or via email at rendelo@fogszabalyozo.hu. We’ll typically invite you back for activations every 4–8 weeks.
  • We always send you a reminder 3 days before your appointment via email, and 1 day before via SMS. If you recall a different time than what’s stated in the reminder, please let us know immediately.
  • If an unexpected event prevents you from attending your scheduled appointment, please inform us as soon as possible—by phone, email, or using the form at the bottom of our website. For cancellations made within 24 hours of the appointment or for missed visits, we charge a late cancellation fee of 10,000 HUF. Repeated missed appointments may result in the suspension of your treatment.
  • Please arrive at the clinic 5–10 minutes before your scheduled time so you’re ready for treatment with freshly brushed teeth. We understand that delays can happen—on both sides—but let’s do our best to be punctual together!

Life at the Clinic:

  • Our team works together to provide you with the highest level of care—both professionally and personally. Each treatment plan is the result of collaboration among our entire medical team, and to ensure consistently high standards, all treatments are overseen by our lead orthodontists.
  • In case of urgent appointments or “emergencies,” you may be seen by a different doctor than usual. Occasionally, one of our colleagues may also observe your treatment for learning purposes. If this causes any discomfort, please don’t hesitate to let us know.
  • Our opening hours on weekdays are from 9:30 AM to 5:30 PM. During this time, we are available to take your calls—or if we miss you, we’ll call you back. We strive to respond to all inquiries quickly and accurately. You can also leave us a message or request a callback anytime via email at rendelo@fogszabalyozo.hu or through the contact form on our website: https://fogszabalyozo.hu/kapcsolat/
